May is one of my favorite months on the farm. The air is warm, the soil is alive, and the herbs are bursting with the kind of vitality that only comes from being grown with intention, patience, and zero interference from chemicals or sprays. This month, I harvested the first round of three incredibly powerful herbs — motherwort, St. John's wort, and California poppy — and I couldn't be more excited to share what that means for you.
But first, let me tell you something important about what makes Blessed Harvest Farm different.
Grown the Way Nature Intended
Every single herb on this farm is grown completely free of pesticides, herbicides, and synthetic fertilizers — not because we have a certification to hang on the wall, but because we genuinely believe that what goes into the plant goes into you. We don't cut corners. We don't spray. We tend our herbs by hand, work with the land, and harvest at peak potency — the precise window when each plant's medicinal constituents are at their highest concentration.
That matters more than most people realize. An herb harvested too early or too late, or grown in depleted or chemically treated soil, simply doesn't carry the same medicine. What we're offering you isn't just an herb — it's a plant that was given every opportunity to become the most powerful version of itself.
Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca)
What it is: Motherwort is a bold, beautiful herb with a long history in traditional herbalism, particularly for women's health and heart support. Its Latin name — Leonurus cardiaca, meaning "lion-hearted" — tells you everything about its character.
The benefits:
- Supports a calm, steady heart — especially during times of stress or anxiety
- A beloved ally for women navigating PMS, irregular cycles, and perimenopause
- Acts as a nervine, helping to ease tension, irritability, and emotional overwhelm
- Traditionally used to support uterine tone and healthy circulation
How to use it: Motherwort tincture is best taken in small, consistent doses — a dropperful in water once or twice daily. It's particularly helpful in the days leading up to your cycle or during moments of acute stress. Its taste is bitter and strong, which in herbalism is actually a sign of potency — embrace it!
Note: Motherwort is not recommended during pregnancy.
St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum)
What it is: St. John's Wort is one of the most well-researched herbs in the world, and for good reason. Traditionally harvested around the summer solstice when its golden flowers are in full bloom, this herb is a true gift of the sun.
The benefits:
- Widely studied for its ability to support mood and emotional well-being
- A powerful nervine and anti-inflammatory herb
- Supports the nervous system during periods of low mood, seasonal shifts, or burnout
- Topically, St. John's Wort-infused oil is deeply soothing for nerve pain, bruising, and muscle tension
How to use it: As a tincture, St. John's Wort is taken consistently over time — its benefits build gradually, typically over 4–6 weeks. A dropperful once or twice daily is a great starting point. It can also be used as an infused oil applied directly to areas of nerve discomfort.
Note: St. John's Wort can interact with certain medications, including antidepressants and birth control. Please consult your healthcare provider if you're on any prescriptions.
California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica)
What it is: Don't let the name fool you — California poppy is not related to the opium poppy and is completely non-addictive. It is, however, one of the most gentle and effective herbs for relaxation, sleep, and pain relief available to us.
The benefits:
- Promotes deep, restful sleep without grogginess
- Eases anxiety and nervous tension naturally
- Supports relief from mild to moderate pain, including headaches and muscle aches
- Safe, gentle, and non-habit forming — a true gift for those who struggle with sleep or stress
How to use it: California poppy tincture is wonderful taken in the evening — a dropperful or two in water about 30–60 minutes before bed. It can also be taken during the day for anxiety support without causing drowsiness for most people. It pairs beautifully with other calming herbs like passionflower or valerian.
🌱 Why Fresh-Harvested, Never-Sprayed Matters
When you buy herbs from a big box store or even many online retailers, you often have no idea when those herbs were harvested, how they were grown, or how long they've been sitting in a warehouse. The medicinal potency of an herb degrades over time and is significantly diminished by chemical exposure during growing.
At Blessed Harvest Farm, I harvest these plants myself, by hand, at the exact moment they're ready. I process them immediately — tincturing fresh plant material at peak potency so that every drop you receive carries the full spectrum of what that plant has to offer. No fillers. No shortcuts. Just pure, honest plant medicine grown with love and harvested with purpose.
This is what I believe herbalism should be. And it's what you deserve.
Ready to Try Them?
These first-harvest herbs will be available in limited quantities as tinctures in our shop. Because we grow in small batches and harvest only at peak times, supply is always limited — and once they're gone, they're gone until the next harvest season.
If you have questions about which herb might be right for you, don't hesitate to reach out. I love connecting with our community and helping you find the plant allies that will serve you best.
With love and roots,
Angel
